The Last Scene Of Betty Blue

by Michelle McCormack

When I saw Betty Blue in high school I was instantly brainwashed into leaving town. My life had to be like Betty’s. I would live in France, have crazy, passionate relationships, and maybe die tragically, just for the drama. Most of it happened. Not the last part, of course.

The film gave birth to my fascination with cinematography, musical scores, set design and acting, which lead to my interest in photography, fine arts and architecture, then graphic design and web design. Because I always read a ton it seemed plebeian, until I got turned on to a whole new world of books: The Unbearable Lightness Of Being, everything by James Baldwin, many things by Hermann Hesse, etc.

My creative life all started with Betty Blue, and I’m grateful.
