Groovy Fashion Designer Ding Yong
It should be okay for me to say that fashion design coming out of Asia, especially Japan has been my favorite for ever. I love Rei Kawakubo of Comme Des Garcon and Yohji Yamamoto; there is a sensibility to their design that is refined yet outlandishly innovative.
Now Malaysia is becoming the heart of International fashion in Asia, and Malaysian International Fashion Week is ending today. Here’s some shoddy, but short footage to give an idea. Music’s pretty good.
Of what I was able to see from my machine here, one designer from China, Ding Yong, was amazing, I adore her stuff. She reminds me of Comme Des Garcon in a way, but unique also. Some of here conceptual stuff is nuts. I love when a designer translates there crazy conceptual work into the wearable, and she does it magnificently. If you saw one of her box-like outfits you’d assume a certain style in the wearable, and you’d be right.
