Worlds First Horror Film

2009 January 4

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is a German Expressionist silent film directed by Director Robert Wiene, and considered the first horror film ever made.

During WWII many German film makers emigrated to London or Hollywood and brought Expressionism with them, greatly influencing film.  Dark lighting, Surrealistic settings and acting pushed Film Noir forward to mainstream audiences.

Just watching this couple of minutes is creepy even by today’s standards.  And they had the sound down.  Definitely ahead of its time.
