Materials
Transmaterial is one of my favorite books, and now I’m starting to love their website.
If you’re into materials at all you have to check these guys out. There are materials out there doing things you never imagined, and new inventions and process happening all the time.
I get their newsletter and then wish I was a materials engineer at MIT. Seriously!
Their featured material this month is called Dimpled Halftone.
Dimple Halftone is a new process intended to create a microlandscape of texture that, when viewed at different distances, can be recognized as a sharp image or abstract pattern.
So, basically you have textured panels made to look like an image from far away or viewing sideways.
Anyway, one of my job dreams is to have projects that require me to research new materials and build cool sets. Meaning a budget that lets me buy and use new materials whenever and however I want!
There’s a new book called, appropriately, Transmaterial 2, but I don’t have it, yet.
Materials, materials, materials. I love that word.
