Roy DeCarava Was A Great Photographer
2009 October 29
Just like Richard Avedon and James Baldwin shooting and writing about Harlem, respectively, in the 30s and 40s, Roy DeCarava, with Langston Hughes, found inspiration in the same subject matter, at around the same time.
Of course, looking at Roy’s photos below, the full body of his work, and the work created by Avadon, Baldwin and Hughes, how could they not. From so much deprivation seems to have come so much inspiration.
Easy for me to say, from where I sit, I know, and I feel sad looking at these photos, but I am grateful they were taken.
Roy DeCarava died 2 days ago at the age of 89.
