Michelle, I am fascinated by this and even signed up for it earlier today.
I think that, once again, Google's foresight and blue sky envisioning will reap benefits for all of us. Especially 6 year old nephews who will be encouraged from an early age to innovate as well as consume.
I couldn't imagine how Google would overcome the fact that Apple had thousands and thousands of more apps and many more motivated developers than them, but here you go – a brilliant solution – make it so anyone can make them – tear down the wall.
