I Am Hungry: Not Just Another Mobile App

GUEST BLOGGER: Pam Sahota

If you’re anything like me, you’ve definitely walked around town, absolutely starving, without a clue where to go. What’s closest for cheap and yummy food, you ask yourself?  Well aside from Yelp (obvious), there is now
I Am Hungry to help with these decisions. It determines your location, then tells you the restaurants in your area, and may also offer a discount such as 20% off. I admit, when my friend told me about this cool mobile app, I was immediately inrigued. I, unfortunately, do not have this app, but hope one day they also make it for a blackberry.  (No, I have not converted to an iPhone, yet. Key word: Yet.)

Despite not being able to try it officially, I do think the idea of it is awesome. Having read some reviews and other reviews it appears evident that people love the idea of this app. Can there ever be enough ways to get great deals, at the touch of a button? I say, not. The main concerns that most people had were:

  1. more restaurants need to join so the app is accurate and
  2. it should spread to large cities other than Boston.

In my opinion these are not bad concerns, but rather allow for growth and the opportunity to expand into a successful app that people actually want to use on a regular basis.

Hat tip to the founders Alex Kravets and Mike Markarian (Zaang.com) who decided to enter the mobile market and focus on what people enjoy on a regular basis – Food !!

GOOGLE GOGGLES – Visual Search on Mobile

Everyone’s talking about shooting the The Brooklyn Bridge to get an instant history lesson, or taking a photo of a leaf to find out its genus, but really, this is all about the possibility of facial recognition. That’s the power, man.

Imagine
You’re sitting on a train and take a discreet shot of the guy across the aisle, hit search and find out everything about him; instantly! Scary? Yeah. Cool? Wicked.

It unleashes a torrent of privacy questions, yeah, but there is no stopping such powerful and useful technology.

Only available on Android, at the moment.
