<p>If you&#8217;re into materials at all you have to check these guys out. There are materials out there doing things you never imagined, and new inventions and process happening all the time.</p>
<p>I get their newsletter and then wish I was a materials engineer at MIT. Seriously!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Transmaterial-Materials-Redefine-Physical-Environment/dp/1568985630/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1234138733&amp;sr=8-2"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-8190" title="transmaterial book" src="http://www.lovethecool.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/transbook.jpg" alt="" height="492" width="350"></a></p>
<p>Their featured material this month is called <a style="background-color: rgb(215, 241, 245);" title="dimpled half tone" href="http://transmaterial.net/index.php/2009/02/08/textured-image-panels/" target="_blank">Dimpled Halftone</a>.</p>
<p><em>Dimple Halftone is a new process intended to create a microlandscape of texture that, when viewed at different distances, can be recognized as a sharp image or abstract pattern.</em></p>
<p>So, basically you have textured panels made to look like an image from far away or viewing sideways.</p>
<p><a href="http://transmaterial.net/index.php/2009/02/08/textured-image-panels/"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-8195" title="dimpled halftone" src="http://www.lovethecool.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/materials.jpg" alt="" height="339" width="435"></a></p>
<p>Anyway, one of my job dreams is to have projects that require me to research new materials and build cool sets. Meaning a budget that lets me buy and use new materials whenever and however I want!</p>
<p>There&#8217;s a new book called, appropriately, <a style="background-color: rgb(215, 241, 245);" title="transmaterial 2" href="http://www.amazon.com/Transmaterial-Materials-Redefine-Physical-Environment/dp/1568987226/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1234140186&amp;sr=1-1" target="_blank">Transmaterial 2</a>, but I don&#8217;t have it, yet.</p>
<p>Materials, materials, materials. I love that word.</p>
<p><a style="background-color: rgb(215, 241, 245);" title="transmaterial" href="http://www.amazon.com/Transmaterial-Materials-Redefine-Physical-Environment/dp/1568985630/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1234138733&amp;sr=8-2" target="_blank">Transmaterial</a><br />
<a style="background-color: rgb(215, 241, 245);" title="transmaterials website" href="http://transmaterial.net/" target="_blank">Transmaterial Website</a><br />

<p><a style="background-color: rgb(215, 241, 245);" title="adam curry" href="http://curry.mevio.com/" target="_blank">Podcasts,</a> I&#8217;ve been loving since my first <a style="background-color: rgb(215, 241, 245);" title="ipod" href="http://www.apple.com/itunes/" target="_blank">iPod</a>, which I got, not coincidentally, about three years ago.</p>
<p>Recently, I subscribed to a bunch of <a style="background-color: rgb(215, 241, 245);" title="oxford university" href="http://www.ox.ac.uk/welcome.html" target="_blank">Oxford University</a> lectures, mostly history, literature (not prose, theory), Internet studies, etc. and it&#8217;s been a great substitute.</p>
<p>I was worried about not learning as much since I&#8217;m off reading, but now I&#8217;m not.</p>
<p><em>***I tried to get a link but it wouldn&#8217;t work, so just type Oxford University in the search field on <a style="background-color: rgb(215, 241, 245);" title="itunes" href="http://www.apple.com/itunes/" target="_blank">iTunes</a>.</em><br />

<p>BTW <a style="background-color: rgb(215, 241, 245);" title="princeton" href="http://www.princeton.edu/main/" target="_blank">Princeton</a> and <a style="background-color: rgb(215, 241, 245);" title="mit" href="http://web.mit.edu/" target="_blank">MIT</a> have lectures there, too.</p>
