Music Hack Day was by far the coolest event I’ve gone to so far at Microsoft NERD in Cambridge. Not just software hacking of existing music platforms, but mechanical hacking, too, with tables set up for workshops in creating DIY transistors, Atari Punk Console and depending on your skill level, what ever you wanted.

And they had some serious panelists discussing the future of music and distribution, including the guys who started Last.fm, Rock Band, SoundCloud and more:

The weekend ended with the software hack presentations, my favorite being Cara Peckens‘ re-architecture of MySpace (I don’t know her, but after this I think we’re soul mates). The truth is, MySpace is still hugely relevant since almost every single band on the planet lives there, but it’s also a case study in un-usability and confusion.

Cara’s 2 minute deck offers a solution that’s simply practical and, I confirmed, implementable!

Philips spot of good guys and bad clowns is a masterpiece.

Philips are the most innovative guys out there, yet you rarely hear about them compared to Sony, Apple, etc.

Since I got the iPhone I take out my Sony SLR about 1/4 as much as before. Sometimes I feel bad, but my phone takes such awesome shots I don’t need something so complicated.

This new app lets me upload iPhone photos right to Flickr.

Hanging At The Sony Store

I was having lunch with friends today and mentioned how I love going to the Sony store to hang out in the big TV room.

They thought it was kind of strange, and I was like “Really, it seems so obvious”?

You go into that room and everywhere there’s huge plasmas playing films with amazing visuals, usually action or sci-fi, muted, so you can kick back on the leather couch and listen you your iPod.

Realizing that not everyone knows about this massively fun activity, I’ve written this post to spread the love.
